What Is An Excerpt? (Block Editor)

An excerpt in the context of the Block Editor in WordPress refers to a summary or teaser text of a post or page. It provides a concise overview of the content and is typically used to display a preview of the article on the Posts page, archive pages, or search results.

How to Display Excerpts on the Posts Page?

To display excerpts on the Posts page in WordPress, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your WordPress dashboard.
  2. Click “Settings” in the left-hand menu and select “Reading” from the submenu.
  3. In the “Reading Settings” page, locate the “For each article in a feed, show” option.
  4. Choose the “Summary” option from the dropdown menu.
  5. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the “Save Changes” button to apply the settings.

By selecting the “Summary” option, WordPress will display excerpts instead of the complete content on the Posts page and other areas where post summaries are shown, such as archive pages or RSS feeds.

Note that the “Reading Settings” availability and location may vary depending on your WordPress version and theme. If you can’t find the option mentioned above, check your theme settings or consult the theme documentation for specific instructions on displaying excerpts.
