Supported Versions | About WordPress

As a user of WordPress, it is essential to know which versions are officially supported and which are not. The WordPress team provides support and documentation only for released formal versions of WordPress that can be downloaded from the WordPress Download page or related URLs.

The current officially supported version is always the latest major release of WordPress. Previous significant releases may or may not receive security updates if serious exploits are discovered. It is recommended to always use the latest version of WordPress for security and performance reasons.

Beta versions nightly builds, and Subversion checkouts are not supported on the WordPress support forums or the WordPress documentation. These versions are for testing purposes only and should not be used on live websites.

The WordPress team follows a support policy that includes backporting security updates to older releases when possible. However, there are no guarantees or timeframes for older releases. There are no fixed periods of support or Long Term Support (LTS) versions like Ubuntu’s. Therefore, using any version other than the latest series is unsafe, which is actively maintained.

You can refer to the WordPress Versions page for a complete list of WordPress versions.
