Settings | Writing Screen

The Settings Writing Screen in WordPress allows you to control the interface and features used when writing new posts, pages, and post types. It provides options for default post categories, post formats, post via email functionality, and update services.

Writing Settings

Default Post Category

This setting allows you to choose a default category for your posts. If you don’t assign any other categories while writing your posts, they will be given to this default category. It can be helpful to use a specific category for your posts frequently.

Default Post Format

If your theme supports post formats, you can select a default post format from this dropdown. Post formats are used to create different styles for different types of posts, such as standard, aside, or gallery formats.

Post via email:

This feature enables you to publish blog posts by sending emails to a specific email address. You need to set up a secret email account with POP3 access. The email content will be converted into a blog post. You may need assistance from your web host or email provider to set up this functionality.

Mail Server, Port, Login Name, Password

These fields are used to configure the email server settings for the post via email feature. You need to enter the details of your mail server, such as its URI address, port number, login name, and password. WordPress provides random strings as examples for the login name and password.

Default Mail Category

This category will be assigned to all posts published via the post email feature. You can create new categories in the Administration > Posts > Categories section.

Update Services

WordPress automatically notifies update services when you publish a new post. This setting allows you to enter the URIs of the updated services to be notified—separate multiple URIs with line breaks.

Save Changes

Clicking the Save Changes button saves any modifications you’ve made to the settings and updates them in your WordPress database. A confirmation message will appear at the top of the screen indicating that your settings have been saved.

The Settings Writing Screen gives you control over various writing-related features and configurations in WordPress, allowing you to customize your writing experience and streamline the publishing process.
