Image Guidelines For Social Platforms

It’s a no brainer that visuals and social media marketing go hand in hand. Visual representation plays a key role in efficiently conveying your brand or product on various social networking platforms and making a lasting impression on the minds of the viewers through videos, memes, images, etc. But no matter how hard you work on your graphics, content, or logos, if your image does not fit properly, all the hard work done on your social strategy will go down the drain.

Today we’ll discuss the basic image guidelines that you must follow while using these 3 most prominent social media platforms.

Facebook

With Facebook, images are displayed differently on your personal timeline than they are displayed in a user’s newsfeed. Moreover, the page layout and designs are always changing on this platform. Try to upload high-quality images and stick to the recommended file format for the best results.

Guidelines for the Profile Picture:

  • Minimum recommended size: 180 x 180 pixels.
  • Please note that every page’s profile picture is cropped in a circular shape in ads and posts but remains the same square shape on the main page.
  • Image with text or logo appears better as a PNG file.
  • The location of the profile picture with respect to the cover photo is different for both desktops and smartphones.

For Cover Photo:

  • Recommended Size: 400 x 150 pixels.
  • Loads faster when uploaded as an sRGB or JPG file (less than 100 KB).
  • Upload images with a logo or text as a PNG file.

For Shared Image:

  • For best display on high-resolution devices, the recommended image dimensions are 1200 x 630 pixels.
  • Maximum Recommended Size: 8 MB.

Instagram

Unlike the earlier norms, Instagram has now increased its image options along with its conventional 1:1 ratio. But this has made our job a bit more difficult to decide which dimensions will enhance the aesthetics of your profile to make the maximum impact on the viewers.

Guidelines for the Instagram Image:

  • Square Image Size: 1080 x 1080 pixels.
  • Vertical Image Size: 1080 x 1350 pixels.
  • Horizontal Image Size: 1080 pixels x 566 pixels.

For Stories:

  • Maximum File Size: 4 GB.
  • Dimensions: 1080 x 1920 pixels.
  • Minimum Recommended Resolution: 600 x 1067 pixels.

For IGTV:

  • Maximum File Size: 650 MB.
  • Dimensions: 1080 x 1920 pixels.
  • The length of the video can vary as per your preference but we recommend something between 15 seconds to 15 minutes.

For Profile Photo:

  • Choose an image with your brand logo that is easily recognizable.
  • Perfect Size: 110 x 110 pixels.

LinkedIn

When it comes to making excellent industrial connections and hiring great employees, nothing can beat LinkedIn. It is, without a doubt, one of the best places to accentuate your business presence. To represent your brand in the best way, you need to make an attractive profile.

Guidelines for the Profile Picture:

  • Image Dimensions between 400 x 400 pixels and 20000 x 20000 pixels (anything up to 10 MB).
  • Can be uploaded as JPG, GIF, or PNG file.
  • Minimum Size: 200 x 200 pixels.

For Cover Photo:

  • Recommended Dimensions: 1584 x 396 pixels.
  • Maximum Size: 4 MB.
  • Can be uploaded as a JPG, PNG, or GIF file.
  • The image is displayed differently on desktop and smartphones. Before finalizing it, ensure that you view it on all devices.

For Post Image:

  • Recommended Dimensions: 1200 x 627 pixels
  • Can be uploaded as JPNG, JPG, or GIF file.

For Logo Image:

  • Recommended Dimensions: 300 x 300 pixels
  • Maximum Size: 4 MB
  • Can be uploaded as JPG, GIF, or PNG file.

These were some very simple guidelines you can refer to while posting on the above-mentioned social platforms. Over the years, the specifications of image posting on social media have become so complex, that we can go on and on when it comes to this topic.
